The K-State Oboe Studio consists of oboe students from a variety of fields of music study. In addition to music majors, the oboe studio also includes students who are pursuing majors outside of music. Each student is a valuable part of the K-State Oboe Studio, and the mission of the oboe studio is to help each student to work hard and become the very best they can be both as a musician and as a person. K-State oboe students participate in a variety of classes and labs that support their progress and growth:
Lessons: each student participates in 30 or 60 minute weekly oboe lessons.
Studio Class: each week, students attend a studio master class. Students perform repertoire, etudes, and excerpts for one another. Students participate in mock orchestra auditions, timed reed making exams, and the oboe olympics. Please see the oboe syllabus for the complete studio class schedule for the current semester.
Technique Classes: Students are offered 3 hours of technique classes each week. These are guided group practice sessions where students work on scales, articulation, blend, sound production, and more.
Reed Making Classes: Students are offered 3 hours of reed making classes each week. These are reed making labs where students learn to become independent and efficient reed makers.
